Jacob Burkhardt
The sculptures I create whether it be of people, creatures, or objects are a representation of pieces of my life encapsulated into a clay body. Parts of me that words can’t come together to truly express. The depth and impact that those moments or seasons have had in my life is what drives me to create pieces that evoke curiosity and make the viewer seek to understand what it is they are viewing.
The primary medium I work with is ceramics, both hand-built and wheel-thrown forms. My goal is to create complex, unexpected fine art that connects to you emotionally, and brings the question to your mind: “What is normal?”. Whether you find yourself in a moment of introspection that is provoked by one of my works, or you find yourself simply enjoying the form and colors, I want you, the viewer, to see something that changes the way you view the world around you.
